Highlights
In Social Studies, we have been examining
different Inuit artifacts. Students had
to write a description of the artifact, draw a picture, and make a prediction
about what the item was used for.
Tomorrow we will find out how these items are really used.
We are working in our Creative Journals to
demonstrate our understanding of non-fiction features. On one page, students had to draw a picture
and label the parts to provide more information. On another page, students drew a picture and
wrote a caption to provide more information about the picture.
During writing, we are working on Kindness
notes for our classmates. These will be
handed out next Wednesday, along with any Valentine cards.
We read a silly story today called “Peanut
Butter and Jelly Brains.”
Important Information
Valentine’s Day
For the past two years, we
have allowed time in the classroom at the end of the day for students to hand
out Valentine Cards and/or Kindness Cards and Messages to their
classmates. If you are planning to do
this as a family, and this is absolutely voluntary, please write a card
for every student in the class. Homemade cards are always special, remembering
that the virtue of Kindness, Caring, Friendship and Compassion should be the
focus of the message.
As stated in our Parent
Handbook on page 5:
“Parents please DO NOT SEND
any cakes, cupcakes, or other treats to school. We have too many children with
severe allergies not only to peanuts but to wheat and dye based products. As a
staff we will ensure your child will not receive ‘treats’ or be passed on any
treats brought in by parents to your children. THIS INCLUDES: the distribution
of all ‘treats’ parents wish to distribute on birthdays or for any holidays.
Here is a list of names
of students in our class if you choose to send Valentine cards or notes. We will have our Valentine/note exchange next
Wednesday.
