Concert Tonight
Doors open at 5:10 pm.  Students will go to their classrooms.  Parents go to the gym.

Highlights
This afternoon the whole school sang carols in the gym.  We also learned how to enter and exit the stage for our concert on Wednesday.  In Math, we have continued to practice mental math addition strategies so we do have to rely on counting with our fingers.
Tomorrow we will begin a building project during Social Studies.    

Thursday will be Pajama day for the whole school.  Students are also welcome to bring a stuffy this day.

Please make sure to dress for the weather this week.  Due to the concert rehearsals there is no gym this week, so students will be going outside for movement breaks in addition to regular recess times.

Highlights
We learned about water, the water cycle and the importance of not polluting our water during our Water for Life presentation this afternoon.  Thank you to our volunteers who assisted with this activity!  During Social Studies we learned that natural resources are useful materials that come from nature.  We learned about some important natural resources in Iqaluit, such as, Arctic char (fish), caribou, seals and cloudberries.  During writing, we are finishing our treasure chest stories.  

Important Information 
As part of our virtue of Generosity, we are putting together socks for people in need.  You can bring a sock stuffed with items or bring any of the following items which will then be put into socks: small hairbrush or comb, dental floss, fingernail clippers, tweezers, sunscreen, bus passes, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, deodorant, hand cream, travel size shampoo and conditioner, hand sanitizer, bandaids, hand warmers (hot pockets), etc.

Highlights
This morning the band from Captain Nichola Goddard School came and performed for us.  They did an amazing job!  This Thursday we will have a “Water for Life” presentation in the afternoon as part of our Science unit on liquids.  Tomorrow is DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) day.  At random times during the day an announcement will tell everyone in the school to stop what they are doing and read for a certain amount of time.  This time can be counted on the reading tracking sheets. 

Important Information

Highlights
In Math we are looking at the relationship between addition and subtraction.  For example, if you know 5+9=14, then 14-9=5.  In Social Studies we watched a video about a spring festival in Iqaluit called Toonik Tyme to help students gain knowledge and appreciation of different cultures and traditions.  Ms. Van Thiel also came to our class today to help us edit our writing for capital letters, punctuation and spelling.

Highlights
On Friday students received their Read-a-thon information packages.  Please write the number of minutes your child reads each day on the Read-a-thon sheet.  During writing, we started planning a story about a treasure chest.  In Science, we talked about reading a thermometer.  We will be using thermometers to measure different temperatures this week.

Students in our class are allowed to bring a stuffy or plush animal on Thursday since they have been working hard! 

Important Information 
-We are collecting non-perishable food items for the Mayor’s Food Drive until Dec. 8.
-Scholastic book orders due tomorrow (cash, cheque, or online payment)

-Please note that school activity fees and lunchroom incidental activity fees were due Nov. 16.
