Highlights

Mrs. Goldenberg came to our class for character circle and talked to us about this month’s virtue, which is peacefulness.

We are reading the novel, “The Chocolate Touch” by Patrick Catling.

One of our classmates told us about a science experiment he did at home with milk, food colouring and dish soap, so we decided to try it at school today.

In Math, we are learning about edges, faces and vertices of 3-D shapes.

We practiced using the Reading Power strategy of questioning, while listening to a book about Avalanches.

Highlights

We talked about how good readers have busy brains and are always wondering, or asking questions while they read.  We read the story “The Wump World” by Bill Peet and students recorded their questions before, during and after reading.  This book also tied in nicely with Earth Day on April 22.

In Math, we continued to work on strategies to add and subtract 2-digit numbers.

It looks like it may rain/snow over the next couple of days.  Please dress your child accordingly.

Highlights

We enjoyed our Acadian presentation yesterday!  We made butter, painted lighthouses, played a board game, and acted out different chores the Acadians had to do on their homestead.

In Math, we sorted pictures of different objects based on what 3-D shapes they resemble.  (E.g., a water bottle looks like a cylinder, a soccer ball looks like a sphere)

We had a practice fire drill in the afternoon.

Tomorrow is twin/triplet day.  Students may dress similar to a classmate or friend if they want.

Highlights

In Social Studies, we watched a video of traditional Acadian dancing.  We also watched a short clip about what the land is like in Meteghan and Nova Scotia.

Tomorrow we will have an Acadian presentation from 9-11 am.  We would still benefit from 1-2 more parent volunteers.  If you have a volunteer security clearance and would like to help, please email Ms. Bain at lcbain@cbe.ab.ca.

In Math, we played an adding game with a deck of cards.  This game helps us practice to quickly identify numbers that make 10.

We also watched the morning Kindergarten and some of the grade 1 students do an assembly about Earth Day and the virtue of Peacefulness.
