Highlights

In Social Studies we learned about the Blackfoot people.  We examined artifacts from the Living Traditions kit, which came from the Glenbow Museum.  Students posed questions and sketched some of the artifacts.  In Science we continued experimenting with making objects float.  Students were given a piece of tinfoil and had to design a boat that could float while holding as many snapcubes as possible.  On Wednesday we watched an assembly by the kindergarten and grade 1 students.

Important Information

Tomorrow is twin/triplet day.  Students planned with a partner or group about what they could wear.  (If your child is unsure, they can always wear dark coloured pants with a white or light coloured t-shirt).  Students are also welcome to wear any school spirit wear.

-Scholastic book orders are due next Tuesday, June 5th.

*All student library books must be returned June 8.

Sports Day
Our annual Sports Day on Tuesday, June 26th is quickly approaching! Our Comprehensive School Health Committee has been working hard to put together fun filled events for students to enjoy. Every year, we have multiple stations set up that students rotate through ie. relay races, team building activities, organized sports, and much more! We are asking for volunteers to help run stations on June 26th. If you are available, please email your child’s classroom teacher. All volunteers must have current security clearance. We are looking forward to another successful Sports Day!

Important Dates
Please see the school website for the June calendar.

Poster Project
As part of our Language Arts program, students will be asked to design a poster and then present it to the class.  Students may choose any topic they want for their poster (e.g., sport, food, hobby, club, a family trip, an animal, themself, etc.).

Students will receive a blank poster when it is their turn.  They may include photographs, draw pictures, cut pictures out of magazines, or use writing to tell about their topic.  Once students are finished they may bring their poster back to school (typically I ask that posters be completed in about a week).  Students will then talk about their poster in front of the class.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at lcbain@cbe.ab.ca .

Highlights
We started our Science unit on Boats and Buoyancy today.  Students experiment with plasticine to see if they could make it into a shape that floats.  We then tested our shapes in water and made adjustments to our designs.

-Scholastic orders are due next Tuesday, June 5th.

Weaving for Water is a service learning project by the Grade 3 students at Panorama Hills School. Our creative students have chosen to raffle their handiwork in support of clean water projects around the world.

When you buy raffle tickets from our Grade 3 students, you are helping to improve the quality of life of families who do not currently have local access to clean water.  Tickets for the raffle are $2 each.

Every ticket you purchase helps us reach our goal of raising $1000 in support of Ryan's Well Foundation and gives you a chance to win a decorative pillow woven by the artistic hands of our amazing students.

Highlights

This week we have been preparing for our Celebration of Learning. We hope you are able to join us tonight.  In Math, we reviewed patterns and talked about how different attributes can change in a pattern (e.g., size, shape, colour, thickness, position, number).  Thank you to all the students who have presented their posters to the class.  It is great to see such a variety of topics and interests!

Highlights

Have a great long weekend!

In Math, we are working on solving word problems.  We discussed how word problems might have to be read multiple times before choosing a strategy.  We also talked about how we can draw pictures and use our knowledge of addition and subtraction to find solutions to the problems.  Today we started a weaving project, which will continue next week.  We also finished glazing our plates for the Celebration of Learning.  In Science we created a page in our creative journals all about worms.
