Highlights

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had an enjoyable spring break.  We have less than 3 months of school left, so we need to keep working hard!

In Math today, we practiced our basic addition and subtraction facts.  We also used elastics and geoboards to create different shapes.

We are working on using the “questioning” strategy to help us better understand text.  We talked about how good readers ask questions before, during and after they read.

In Social Studies we are starting to learn about Meteghan in Nova Scotia.  We came up with a number of questions we have about Meteghan.  Here are a few examples:
What is their art like?
What is the weather like?
Do they eat any special food?
What special days do they celebrate?

Important Information

*The April calendar and newsletter for April/May are posted on the Panorama Hills homepage.  Please take a look at these documents because they contain important information about events happening at the school.  Click on the School Information link, then click on Calendar/Hours and Newsletter.

Homework
-Practice new spelling lists

Ask Me About:
What is the difference between a quick question and a deep thinking question?

Quick question- quick to answer; answer is usually found in the book, usually one correct answer; once you know the answer, your thinking stops.  (e.g., What was the character’s name?  Where was the dog hiding in the story?)

Deep thinking question- takes more time to answer, the answer is not in the text- you may have to use your brain or look at another source; often not one correct answer, since you don’t know the answer, your thinking keeps going.  (e.g., Why is yawning contagious?)
