Highlights

Today we went into our “Iris” accounts and entered information about the ways we learn best.  We will be sharing our “Iris” accounts with parents at the next student-led conferences in March.

In Science, we tested a variety of materials to see which ones would absorb water.

We are learning about place value in math and the concept of 2-digit numbers having a tens place and ones place.

No school for students tomorrow!

Valentine’s Day
For the past two years, we have allowed time in the classroom at the end of the day for students to hand out Valentine Cards and/or Kindness Cards and Messages to their classmates.  If you are planning to do this as a family, and this is absolutely voluntary, please write a card for every student in the class. Homemade cards are always special, remembering that the virtue of Kindness, Caring, Friendship and Compassion should be the focus of the message.

As stated in our Parent Handbook on page 5:
“Parents please DO NOT SEND any cakes, cupcakes, or other treats to school. We have too many children with severe allergies not only to peanuts but to wheat and dye based products. As a staff we will ensure your child will not receive ‘treats’ or be passed on any treats brought in by parents to your children. THIS INCLUDES: the distribution of all ‘treats’ parents wish to distribute on birthdays or for any holidays.

Here is a list of names of students in our class if you choose to send Valentine cards or notes.

Here is a math website students can use:

Ms. Bain recommends the games “Number lines” and “Number twins” (under the addition and subtraction heading).

How many ten sticks would you need to make the number 53?  How many ones would you need?

What does the word absorb mean?
