Highlights
Earlier
this week we practiced adding details and descriptive words when writing about
a picture of a haunted house. In Social
Studies we are learning about life in past and present Iqaluit. We watched a video, which showed how an igloo
is built. We also examined, sketched and
posed questions about some Inuit artifacts from the Glenbow Museum. In Math, we worked on the vocabulary terms,
equal and unequal. We talked about solids,
liquids and gases in Science and brainstormed a list of substances that are
liquids.
Important Information
Pictures were sent home today. If your child was absent when pictures were
taken, they will have their picture taken on Nov. 14. Retakes will also take place this day.
Scientists
in School Presentation- Nov. 7
Exploring Liquids is one of the Science units we will be studying
this year. On November 7th, our Grade 2
class is fortunate to have an in-school workshop about liquids, presented by
Scientists in School. Scientists in
School is a non-profit organization that gives students an opportunity to
interact with specialists, such as, scientists, ecologists and engineers. Their goal is for every Canadian child to
have multiple opportunities to be sparked by science.
The Grade 2’s will have the opportunity to participate in a
hands-on presentation titled: Looking at Liquids. During this program, students will:
·
Explore
the three states of matter
·
Use
a thermometer to measure the conditions necessary to produce a change in state
·
Investigate
buoyancy and solubility
·
Take up the
challenge to produce the world’s biggest bubble
Our class would benefit from 1-2 more parent volunteers for next
Tuesday morning. Parents may sign up on the Signup genius
website. Thanks for your support!
Please sign the Scientist in
School form and return it to the school if you have not already done so.
