Highlights
During Language Arts, we have been working on reading
comprehension strategies. We practiced
making connections with the story “When Sophie Gets Angry, Really, Really Angry”
by Molly Bang. We also looked at how the
illustrator chose certain colours to represent different emotions. Strong readers also ask questions and actively
wonder about text before, during, and after reading. We read the story “Wump World” by Bill Peet,
which is about little creatures called Wumps, whose planet gets taken over by
the “Pollutions.” The Pollutions cut
down forests, pollute the air and water and destroy nature. Many students wondered how the silly Pollutions
could be so thoughtless and were surprised when a connection was made between
the Pollutions and human beings.
In Math, we were introduced to the concept of
regrouping (carrying) when solving 2-digit addition. We are also persevering with our skyscraper
problems (see link below.) This activity
builds spatial awareness as well as problem solving skills.
We finished the novel Arctic Tale and watched
the movie, which follows the real life adventure of a polar bear cub and a
walrus pup.
In Social Studies, we have been learning about
the Acadians of Meteghan. We have been
focusing on their culture and traditions.
This week the Grade 3’s presented an assembly
about Pink Shirt Day and kindness vs bullying.
