Highlights
In Social Studies, we
came up with questions about life in past and present Iqaluit (e.g., What do
they eat? Is school the same in Iqaluit
as in Calgary? How does an Igloo stay
up? We watched short clips about throat
singing, the Toonik Tyme Festival and how an Igloo is built.
In Language Arts, we
continued to learn about features of non-fiction text. This week we looked at how to use the Table
of Contents and Glossary to help us with our reading.
In Math, we worked on
the doubles plus or minus one strategy (also called the near doubles strategy). For example, if I know 6+6=12, then 6+7=13
because it is one more.
In Science, we used eye
droppers and experimented with dropping water onto wax paper. We also predicted and tested how many drops
of water would fit on a penny. (This is leading up to the concept of surface
tension).

Ask me about:
What is a glossary?
What is a noun?
What happened when 2
drops of water came close together on your wax paper?
Do you remember how many
water drops fit on your penny? Did this
surprise you?
