*A new blog has been created in hopes that parents will be able to receive the blog messages through email.  Starting on Monday, Jan. 30 you can submit your email address in the box titled “Follow by email” on the side of the blog.  Don’t forget to check your junk email in case the blog is initially sent there.  (Hopefully this will work!!)

Highlights

Each student received a small inuksuk made out of soapstone.  We used sandpaper and water to round the edges and smooth the soapstone.  Our next step is to add oil to make our carvings shiny.

We finished the novel “Hour of the Olympics” which talked about the first Olympic games in Ancient Greece.

Report cards will be handed out tomorrow.  Please sign and return the report card envelope, so we know that you received the report card.  Keep the report card.

Important Information

We have had a number of parents volunteer for the Clay for Kids activity on Feb. 6 from 12:40-2:40 pm.  Thank you for this!  Ms. Bain will be contacting you through email.  There will also be additional volunteer opportunities coming up in the next few months, so please continue to check the blog if you are interested in helping out.

Valentine’s Day
For the past two years, we have allowed time in the classroom at the end of the day for students to hand out Valentine Cards and/or Kindness Cards and Messages to their classmates.  If you are planning to do this as a family, and this is absolutely voluntary, please write a card for every student in the class. Homemade cards are always special, remembering that the virtue of Kindness, Caring, Friendship and Compassion should be the focus of the message.

As stated in our Parent Handbook on page 5:
“Parents please DO NOT SEND any cakes, cupcakes, or other treats to school. We have too many children with severe allergies not only to peanuts but to wheat and dye based products. As a staff we will ensure your child will not receive ‘treats’ or be passed on any treats brought in by parents to your children. THIS INCLUDES: the distribution of all ‘treats’ parents wish to distribute on birthdays or for any holidays.

Homework
-Spelling quiz tomorrow
-Reading/Raz-Kids  (Don’t forget to sign the reading log sheet)
